Nazariya has been involved in crisis intervention for LBQT persons since 2015. However, a formal crisis intervention unit called ARRSH (Advocacy, Referral, Resource Support, Shelter, and Helpline) was formed in 2019. ARRSH works towards addressing the issues of GBV faced by queer and trans* persons.

Advocacy

Through our work, we amplify the voices of queer women and trans* persons to shed light on their experiences and lived realities. We are a part of different networks like Lam-Lynti Chittara Neralu (LCN)- a shelter home Network, and Aman Network- a network of organisations working against domestic violence to foster conversations around GBV from a queer perspective. Nazariya is also part of The National Network of LBI women and Transgender persons in India. This network was part of the Marriage Equality Petition in the Supreme Court of India. The network was also part of a groundbreaking report called "Apnon Ka Bahut Lagta Hai" (Our Own Hurt Us the Most), which mentions the lived realities of natal family violence of LBTQ persons. Nazariya aims to advocate for the rights of queer women and trans* persons, through groundwork such as crisis intervention, safe home, helpline, and the Trans Resource Project.

Nazariya is also part of the Asia Regional Forum on SOGIE (sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression) & GBV. In 2020, OutRight Action International and 22 LGBTI advocates working on GBV in 8 Asian countries met online to share country-level good practices for LGBTI protections for domestic violence/family violence, advocacy efforts to overcome legal challenges, effective training modules, and service protocols. Nazariya has been part of this Network since its inception.

Crisis Intervention Programs

Nazariya provides legal recourse to survivors of GBV and those seeking support for escaping natal family violence. We work with a group of lawyers to support queer and trans* persons facing violence. Even though we do not currently work separately on livelihood opportunities for queer and trans persons, however, in the crisis intervention team we try and place them in different jobs.

Safe Home

We sustain a safe home for queer women and trans* individuals and couples that seek shelter for interim relief. The safe home run by Nazariya specifically caters to queer women assigned female at birth, transmen and queer couples in distress. Other than providing food and medical care, queer individuals are also provided with skill training and help with finding employment so that they can live independently.

Helpline

You can call our helpline at +91-9818151707 (Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for support. Our helpline supports cases for queer and trans* persons and is handled by a team of experienced peer counsellors and case workers. So far we have worked with over 500 cases of crisis.

Trans Resource Project

We are collaborating directly with members of the trans* community, healthcare professionals, and hospitals, alongside other key stakeholders. Our goal is to gather comprehensive data on the experiences and processes involved in accessing gender-affirmative healthcare. This includes detailed insights into the medical care provided to trans* individuals seeking these services. We also support trans* individuals with documentation for ID cards.
